Introducing Baja Cancer Outreach
A New Name, A Broader Mission,
A Rising Vision
We are proud to introduce Baja Cancer Outreach (BCO) — a new California nonprofit born from a deep commitment to improving cancer outcomes in Loreto and the surrounding areas. Formerly known as Amigas de Onco Loreto, we’ve changed our name to better reflect the broader mission and expanded vision we now carry forward.
BCO remains a dedicated sister organization to Onco Loreto, which has done exceptional work supporting women in Loreto diagnosed with cancer. We are proud to continue fundraising and providing financial support for their efforts — and that commitment remains at the heart of what we do.
But today, we take a bold step forward.
We believe the time has come to build a wider foundation of hope — one rooted in education, prevention, early detection, and access to care for all individuals facing cancer in Loreto and the surrounding rural Baja communities. That’s why Baja Cancer Outreach is working to empower everyone — women, men, children, and families — with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to prevent, detect, and survive cancer.
This evolution doesn’t mean we’re leaving our past behind. In fact, we see this as building upon the powerful legacy of Maria Elena Posadas, the founder of Onco Loreto.
Her vision and tireless advocacy for women with cancer in Loreto have changed lives — and inspired us to ask,
“How much more can we do together?”

We believe we now have the financial and volunteer strength to bring that answer to life.
At BCO, we’re committed to working side by side with Mexican individuals, healthcare workers, educators, and local organizations, free from cultural barriers, and united by shared purpose. Change doesn’t happen from above — it rises from within. And our role is to empower the change makers already rooted in these communities, from teachers to nurses to families themselves.
Our mission is simple, but powerful:
Through awareness and compassion, we can improve cancer survival in rural Baja by supporting Mexican programs that improve prevention, ensure access to screening, support education in healthcare and wellness, and advocate for more resources in basic and advanced cancer care delivery.
Our donors are not just contributors — they are partners in this shared vision. When you give to Baja Cancer Outreach, you’re supporting sustainable, community-based programs. You’re helping us expand the work of Onco Loreto, not replace it — and a significant portion of our funds will continue to flow directly to their essential programs.
We invite you to join us as we rise to meet this moment — to lift lives, help make care accessible and rise like the phoenix toward a brighter, healthier future for all in Baja.
Baja Cancer Outreach – donde la esperanza toma vuelo, where hope takes flight.
With gratitude,
The Baja Cancer Outreach Team
